Blue Ball Elementary School

Blue Ball Families and Community,

Welcome to this week's edition of the Blue Ball Elementary School Newsletter! We're excited to share the latest happenings and updates from our school community to keep you informed and engaged.

Character Trait of the Month

Our character trait for the month of March is Cooperation. Please read the monthly newsletter here.

Read Across America Week

This week was full of excitement as we celebrated Read Across America together! Our learners enjoyed a variety of activities designed to inspire a love of reading and storytelling.

On Monday, students were introduced to the work of Kevin McCloskey, an author and illustrator known for children’s books such as We Dig Worms and Somthing's Fishyl. Learners explored how McCloskey created his stories and illustrations, gaining a deeper appreciation for the creativity and effort that goes into making the books they enjoy.

Throughout the week, fun themed spirit days added to the celebration and encouraged students to continue discovering the joy of reading. From dressing up to participating in special classroom activities, learners were reminded that reading can take them anywhere their imagination can go.

It was a wonderful week filled with books, creativity, and enthusiasm for learning. We are proud of our learners for embracing the spirit of Read Across America and continuing to grow as readers!

Spotlight on Academics

With the spring sports season beginning, there are many fun and natural ways for families to practice math together! Whether keeping score at a baseball game, tracking laps at track practice, timing drills, or comparing team statistics, sports provide great opportunities for learners to use math in real-life situations. Families can encourage their children to add scores, calculate averages, measure distances, or estimate time and speed. These simple activities help strengthen math skills while connecting learning to the excitement of sports. A little math practice on the sidelines can go a long way in building confidence and reinforcing important skills!

You are still welcome to return any of our previous opportunities.

Safe and Civil School Survey

We invite you to participate in the Safe and Civil Schools survey during the week of March 23rd-27th. The survey will help us identify what we are doing well and what we need to work on, such as safety in a particular location in the school, learners’ understanding of the expectations for behavior, or communication with families.

Please review the District Letter here.

District Title I Science Night

Title I learners had a fantastic time making slime with Science Explorers! This hands-on activity gave students the chance to explore science in a fun and engaging way. As they mixed ingredients and watched the slime form, learners discovered how different materials can combine to create something new. Along the way, they talked about textures, measurements, and the science behind how slime works.

Activities like this help students build curiosity and excitement about science while practicing important problem-solving and observation skills. The room was filled with smiles, laughter, and lots of stretchy slime! We are grateful for opportunities like this that make learning interactive and memorable for our learners.

Staff members have the opportunity to recognize their peers for their contributions and dedication. We celebrated Mrs. Bliss and Mrs. Jarratt during morning announcements this past week. We extend our sincere thanks to Texas Roadhouse for providing certificates and meal coupons for these individuals.

PTO Reminders

Our next PTO Meeting is Tuesday, April 7, 2026 at 6:30 PM in the Blue Ball Conference Room. A virtual link will be sent prior to the meeting for those unable to attend in person.

All PTO officer positions — President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer — will be open for the 2026–2027 school year. Nominations are still being accepted, with elections to be held at the April meeting.

PTO is looking for new faces and fresh ideas, especially kindergarten and first grade parents who are ready to get involved and grow with our school community. Attending a PTO meeting is a great way to learn how you can help and what each role involves.
Please note: Without volunteers to fill these positions, we will not have a PTO, which means programs such as field trips, RIF books, teacher appreciation, family nights, and more would not be possible.
Your involvement truly makes a difference—please consider stepping up or nominating someone today! If you have questions or would like to make a nomination for yourself or someone else please email us at blueballpto1@gmail.com.

The Blue Ball PTO Gertrude Hawk Spring Fundraiser pick-up will being during Parent-Teacher Conferences.

Excellence in Attendance

We are grateful to our families for sharing your children each day as we grow and learn together. When students attend school consistently, they not only strengthen essential skills in reading, writing, and math, but also benefit from collaboration with peers—sharing ideas, building teamwork, and forming lasting friendships. Being together nurtures social development and fosters a sense of belonging that enriches the learning experience. When everyone is present, we grow stronger, more confident, and better prepared for success—together.

Congratulations to Kindergarten, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th Grades. These grades had 95% or better attendance this past week!

Congratulations to our Pizza Winners. These learners have 95% or better attendance. Our thanks to DiMaria's Pizza and Italian Kitchen for their support of our school community.
