BBES Newsletter

Blue Ball Elementary School

Blue Ball Families and Community,

Welcome to this week's edition of the Blue Ball Elementary School Newsletter! We're excited to share the latest happenings and updates from our school community to keep you informed and engaged.

Spotlight on Academics

We hope your family is enjoying tracking the medals in the Winter Olympics. If needed, you can print a copy of the graphing activity: BBES 2026 Winter Olympics Medals Graph. The 2026 Winter Olympics have concluded. This week is a good time to finishing comparing the United States medals with the other country that you selected.

Hershey Bears Reading Log: Your child is brought home a reading log that when completed can be returned for a certificate and code to get a Hershey Bears ticket. We had our first three Hershey Bears Reding Logs turned in last week. Great job readers!

Previous opportunities that are still available:
Book Bingo Challenge papers can continue to be completed and turned in as well! Currently, 1st and 3rd grade have the most learners who completed this challenge.

PTO Reminders

Our next PTO Meeting is Tuesday, March 3, 2026 at 6:30 PM in the Blue Ball Conference Room. A virtual link will be sent prior to the meeting for those unable to attend in person.

All PTO officer positions — President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer — will be open for the 2026–2027 school year. We are accepting nominations through our March PTO meeting, with elections to be held at the April meeting
We are looking for new faces and fresh ideas, especially kindergarten and first grade parents who are ready to get involved and grow with our school community. Attending a PTO meeting is a great way to learn how you can help and what each role involves.
Please note: Without volunteers to fill these positions, we will not have a PTO, which means programs such as field trips, RIF books, teacher appreciation, family nights, and more would not be possible.
Your involvement truly makes a difference—please consider stepping up or nominating someone today! If you have questions or would like to make a nomination for yourself or someone else please email us at blueballpto1@gmail.com.

The Blue Ball PTO Gertrude Hawk Spring Fundraiser continues! This is an easy (and delicious!) way to support our school—and the chocolate makes perfect Easter basket goodies too. The fundraiser runs through February 23rd.

Excellence in Attendance

We are grateful to our families for sharing your children each day as we grow and learn together. When students attend school consistently, they not only strengthen essential skills in reading, writing, and math, but also benefit from collaboration with peers—sharing ideas, building teamwork, and forming lasting friendships. Being together nurtures social development and fosters a sense of belonging that enriches the learning experience. When everyone is present, we grow stronger, more confident, and better prepared for success—together.

Congratulations to Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, and 4th Grades. These grades had 95% or better attendance this past week!

Congratulations to our weekly pizza winners. These learners were randomly drawn from all learners who have 95% or better attendance. Our thanks to DiMaria's Pizza and Italian Kitchen for supporting our school.

Girls on the Run (GOTR)

Please see the information below from Ms. Urban to learn about this opportunity.

I wanted to share some information about Girls on the Run, an amazing program for girls in grades 3–5 at Blue Ball Elementary. I am the head coach, and I truly cannot say enough great things about this program — even as an adult, I’ve benefited from it!

Girls on the Run is a fun, research-based program that combines movement, confidence-building, and life skills. We warm up together, complete meaningful lessons each practice, participate in a community service project, and finish the season with a 5K at Greenfield Park on May 16th. It’s such a powerful, positive experience for the girls.

  • Practices: Mondays & Wednesdays, 3:45–5:15 PM
  • Season begins: Week of March 9th
  • Registration opens: February 7th
If you’re able, I highly encourage you to consider signing your daughter up!
